Bring Your Gifts. Learn, Teach, and Grow Together.

Join the Daily Life and Work of the Land

Amaroo Sanctuary welcomes a small number of international volunteer guardians each season, connected to the wider ARC Cultural Exchange. This isn't a labor exchange — it's a reciprocal one. You bring your time, your skills, and your presence; we offer a place to belong, practical experience in regenerative living, and genuine cultural exchange. We keep this circle small — never more than two guardians at a time.

Guiding Principles

Seven principles guide every exchange at Amaroo:

1

Reciprocity before service.

2

Cultural respect before education.

3

Learning through practice.

4

Indigenous knowledge holds equal value to Western knowledge.

5

Long-term relationships over short-term projects.

6

Ecological regeneration and cultural regeneration are inseparable.

7

Every participant becomes an ambassador between cultures.

A Suggested Schedule

Every stay is shaped around you, the season, and what the land needs — visits can run shorter or longer than this. Here's a sample rhythm based on a three-week stay:

1 Week 1

Integration & Orientation

Arrival and settling in. You'll meet the Amaroo family, walk the land, and be welcomed into our daily rhythms, values, and safety practices. Together we get curious about what you bring — your skills, your experience, your interests — and where that meets what the Sanctuary needs right now.

2 Weeks 2–3

Active Guardianship & Exchange

You step more fully into the life and work of the Sanctuary — hands in the soil, present in the kitchen, part of the daily unfolding. Projects are matched to what you offer and what excites you to learn, so your time here leaves a real mark on the land and on you.

What You Might Work On

Depending on your skills and what the land is asking for that season, your days may include:

✦

Garden and agroecological work

✦

Regenerative land management

✦

Plant propagation & food production

✦

Maintenance and infrastructure projects

✦

Environmental and conservation activities

✦

Animal care, alongside our Land Guardian

✦

Food processing and kitchen support

✦

Retreat and event preparation

✦

Documentation, storytelling & community connection

A Two-Way Exchange

Amaroo Offers

  • A place to live, rest, and truly participate
  • Hands-on experience in regenerative practices
  • Guidance from our land, kitchen, and community team
  • Cultural exchange and connection to local knowledge
  • Care, hospitality, and a well-tended home for your stay

Let's Get Curious About You

  • What skills — practical, creative, or professional — are you excited to bring?
  • What experiences are you hoping to grow or deepen during your time here?
  • Where do you sense your gifts might meet what the land and community need right now?
  • What does meaningful collaboration look like to you?

There's no perfect answer — bring your curiosity, and we'll figure out the rest together when you apply.

There's more to this exchange than fits on a page — the right fit often reveals itself in conversation. We'll get into it together once you reach out.
